WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA sophomore Sydney Leroux has been named Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 1-7, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Leroux scored her team-leading fifth and sixth goals of the season in two big wins over ranked opponents at the Illini Challenge Cup over the weekend. The Bruins beat No. 11 Illinois 2-1 on Friday, with Leroux scoring the first goal of the game and then assisting on the game-winner in the 79th minute. On Sunday, UCLA pulled an upset of No. 6 Florida, blanking the Gators, 3-0, with Leroux netting the deciding tally in the 51st minute.
Leroux leads the Bruins in scoring, racking up 13 points on six goals and one assist through five games.
This is the first weekly honor for Leroux and UCLA's 25th Pac-10 Player of the Week all-time.
