LOS ANGELES - UCLA softball head coach Kelly Inouye-Perez has announced her early signing class. Gabrielle Maurice (Modesto, Calif./Johansen HS/Sorcerer) and Delaney Spaulding (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Etiwanda HS/Team Mizuno) have signed National Letters of Intent to become Bruins starting with the 2013-2014 season.

"Both athletes truly represent UCLA softball with a strong academic foundation, tremendous athletic ability, and wonderful families that will represent the four letters with great pride," Inouye-Perez said.

Gabrielle Maurice

Maurice, a left-handed hitting utility player, is coming off an outstanding junior campaign in 2012 at Johansen High School. She was named the Sacramento Bee's Player of the Year for the second straight season after hitting .614 with nine home runs, 27 runs batted in, 10 doubles, four triples, 36 runs scored and 18 stolen bases. Maurice was also named First Team Modesto Metro Conference and an ESPN All-American. She has been named All-State in each of the last two years, also earning CalHiSports POY accolades as the state's best sophomore and junior. As a sophomore in 2011, she batted .506 with eight homers, 24 RBI, five doubles, six triples and 41 runs to help the Vikings to a conference title and a quarterfinal appearance in the state tournament. Maurice plays club with one of the top travel teams in the Bay Area, Sorcerer 18 Gold, coached by Phil Mumma.

"Gabby Maurice has an impressive combination of speed and power from the left side, and her athletic versatility will be a strength in the 2014 season," Inouye-Perez said.

Delaney Spaulding

Spaulding, a right-handed hitting infielder, also had a fantastic junior season in 2012 at Etiwanda High School. The First Team All-Baseline League, All-Valley and All-State selection hit .490 with 13 home runs, 49 runs batted in, eight doubles and 33 runs scored. Spaulding has helped the Eagles to three consecutive Baseline League titles. As a junior, she hit .468 with eight homers, 33 RBI and 39 runs. Spaulding, who plays club with Team Mizuno under head coach Mike Stith, was also invited to the USA Softball Junior Women's National Team selection camp in 2010.

"Delaney Spaulding is a dynamic and very athletic infielder who will impact our lineup immediately," Inouye-Perez said. "She brings championship experience with her impressive softball instinct."
