Bruins Post Senior Day Victory Over Washington State

Box Score

LOS ANGELES - Playing in her final regular season home match at Drake Stadium, senior defender Bristyn Davis scored the game-winning goal in UCLA's 2-0 victory over Washington State on Sunday afternoon, extending UCLA's winning streak to 10-straight. With the win, the Bruins improve to 16-2 overall and 7-0 in the Pac-10. UCLA can guarantee itself at least a share of the 2006 Pac-10 title with either a win or a tie against Oregon next Friday. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 8-6-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the conference.

Davis, who was honored along with five other Bruin seniors prior to the match, put UCLA on the board in the 24th minute on a right-footed blast from the top right corner of the box. Stacy Lindstrom and Danesha Adams were credited with the assists. It marks Davis' first goal since the NCAA Semifinals against Princeton back in 2004.

The Bruins struck again in the 62nd minute, this time on a penalty kick from freshman Lauren Cheney. After dribbling past two Washington State defenders, Cheney was brought down just inside the top of the box resulting in the penalty kick. It marked her team-leading 14th goal of the season.

UCLA goalkeeper Valerie Henderson picked up her 13th victory of the year, ending the match with one save. Washington State goalkeeper Brynn Bemis had a match-high nine saves.

UCLA is now unbeaten in its last 17 conference matches. The Bruins have a chance to become the first team to win four-straight Pac-10 titles. UCLA ends the regular season with an 11-0 home record, tying the school record for most wins in a season. Sunday's attendance of 2,815 was the third largest home attendance ever for the women's soccer team.

The Bruins round out the regular season next week, traveling to the Pacific Northwest for matches against Oregon (Nov. 3) and Oregon State (Nov. 5).
