ST. LOUIS - UCLA freshman Shabazz Muhammad has captured Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week honors for games ending the week of Sunday, Dec. 30, as announced by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association on Wednesday.

Muhammad tied his season high with 27 points - including a team-best seven points in overtime - to help UCLA defeat then-No. 7 Missouri, 97-94, on Friday, Dec. 28, in New Pauley Pavilion. He also secured Pac-12 Player of the Week honors for his 27-point effort earlier this week.

A freshman from Las Vegas, Muhammad made two 3-point shots in overtime that put UCLA ahead - his first overtime three-pointer snapped an 88-88 tie, and his second overtime trey gave UCLA the lead for good at 95-93 with 1:01 to play.

Muhammad has scored in double figures in all 10 games played, recording at least 20 points in five games (including each of UCLA's last four contests). Muhammad's 27-point effort last Friday helped UCLA secure its first win over a top-10 ranked non-conference team since Nov. 20, 2007 (Michigan State).

UCLA (10-3) opens Pac-12 action against California (8-4) on Thursday, Jan. 3. Game time in New Pauley Pavilion is 8 p.m. Thursday's game will be televised live on Fox Sports West.
