Head Football Coach Jim Mora put the Bruin football team through its second practice of fall camp on Sunday afternoon at Cal State University San Bernardino.
UCLA took the field to temperatures in the mid-90s on day two in San Bernardino. Once again the Bruins were decked out in helmets only. Another nice crowd was on hand to witness the session which Coach Mora thought was improved over day one and included higher levels of intensity and enthusiasm. "We took a step in the right direction today," said the first-year head coach.
Freshman receivers Javon Williams (Chandler, AZ HS; Jordan Payton (Oaks Christian HS), Kenny Walker (Richmond, CA Kennedy HS) and Ian Taubler (Fresno, CA Bullard HS) saw plenty of action during the team periods and each made some nice catches. Williams had a couple of long receptions, using his 6-5 height to full advantage.
After team meetings this evening, the squad will prepare to put on shoulder pads for the first time on day three of camp on Monday. The team will take the practice field at Cal State San Bernardino at 2:45 p.m.
UCLA opens the 2012 football season on the road with a game against Rice on August 30 (6:30 p.m. CT/4:30 p.m. PT). The Bruins then return home to the Rose Bowl for three straight games --- Nebraska (Sept. 8, 4:30 p.m.), Houston (Sept. 15, 7:30 p.m.) and Oregon State (Sept. 22, time TBA). Fans heading to Cal State San Bernardino (5500 University Parkway, San Bernardino, CA 92407) should plan on bringing their own chairs, as there are no bleachers around the practice fields. Parking ($5 daily charge) can be secured at the parking kiosk off the Coyote Drive entrance to the university or at the blue automated kiosks in the lot. Plenty of parking is available in lots (Lot G is closest to field) within a short walk of the practice site located on the east side of the campus.
