LOS ANGELES - UCLA has been selected No. 13 in the preseason USA Today men's basketball coaches poll, as announced Wednesday. The Bruins open their season against Indiana State on Friday, Nov. 9, in New Pauley Pavilion.
UCLA's season opener in three weeks will mark the school's first athletic event in the newly-renovated Pauley Pavilion, which underwent an 18-month, $136 million renovation.
The Bruins return three of five starters from last season's team, which finished the year 19-14 with an 11-7 mark in the Pac-12 and tied for a fifth place finish in the conference standings.
UCLA's veteran unit includes David Wear, Travis Wear and Tyler Lamb, all of which started one year ago, and prominent players Larry Drew II, Joshua Smith and Norman Powell. The Bruins also welcome an incoming group ranked by ESPN.com as the nation's top-ranked recruiting class.
UCLA will play at least five games against teams ranked in the USA Today Coaches' preseason poll - two versus No. 11 Arizona (Jan. 24, March 2) and one each against No. 17 Missouri (Dec. 28), No. 20 San Diego State (Dec. 1) and No. 24 Texas (Dec. 8). The Bruins could face No. 1 Indiana at the Progressive Legends Classic in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 20.
Game time of the season opener in Pauley Pavilion on Friday, Nov. 9, is slated for 8 p.m.
