Box Score

Stanford, Calif. - The second-ranked UCLA women's soccer team was handed its first loss of the 2011 season on Sunday, as No. 1 Stanford scored four times in the first half en route to a 4-1 victory over the Bruins before a capacity crowd of 1,937 at Cagan Stadium. With the loss, UCLA sees its record fall to 10-1-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the Pac-12.

Stanford's Chioma Ubogagu scored twice in the first 20 minutes to put the Bruins behind early. Her first goal was an unassisted strike from six yards out in the eighth minute. She added another goal at the 17:31 mark as she beat two UCLA defenders before eventually finishing to the far post. Lindsay Taylor was credited with the assist on that goal.

UCLA junior Zakiya Bywaters was able to cut the lead to 2-1 less than 30 seconds after Ubogagu's second goal, as she took a pass from Chelsea Cline and buried a low shot from about eight yards out.

The Cardinal (13-0-1; 5-0 Pac-12), however, were just too strong on Sunday, scoring twice more before the end of the half. Taylor notched her team-leading ninth goal of the season in the 28th minute, while Kristy Zurmuhlen scored her third goal of the year in the 40th minute to give Stanford a 4-1 lead.

Neither team was able to score in the second half, however the Bruins picked up their play considerably in the final 45 minutes, outshooting the Cardinal, 8-4. UCLA owned a slim 13-12 advantage in the total shot count.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Alana Munger saw her first career action for the Bruins on Sunday, playing the entire second half in goal. She finished the match with two saves. Katelyn Rowland started the match in goal for the Bruins.

UCLA has just one match next week, as the Bruins travel to Pullman, Wash. on Friday for a 3:00 p.m. showdown with Washington State.
