Postgame Video Report

Los Angeles, Calif. - For the second consecutive year, it was zeroes across the board as UCLA and Washington State played to a scoreless tie at Drake Stadium on Thursday evening. The match was the Pac-12 opener for both teams.

UCLA outshot Washington State, 18-5, including 5-0 in the two overtime periods, but could not get on the board. Cougar goalkeeper Gurveen Clair made seven saves, including a big one in the 105th minute off a shot by Caprice Dydasco that looked destined for goal until Clair leaped up to tip it over the crossbar.

The Bruins had other good scoring opportunities in the game. In the 20th minute, Zakiya Bywaters drew Clair out and went for a sharp-angled shot to the far post that missed by mere inches. UCLA also caught the goalkeeper out of position in the 91st minute, but Sarah Killion's shot missed just wide right.

In the final three minutes of the second overtime, each team had potential breakaways snuffed out by the defense. First, the Cougars found themselves in a 3-on-2, but Bruin defender Lucretia Lee broke it up and retained possession for UCLA. With a minute to play, Bywaters broke free but was stopped by the Cougar defense.

Alana Munger earned the shutout in goal for the Bruins, who picked up their seventh clean sheet in nine games. Munger made three saves in 110 minutes for her first career solo shutout.

"I think Alana did a fantastic job, and I think our defending was pretty good for the most part," said UCLA head coach B.J. Snow. "I think where we lacked was in our decision-making. It was a little bit slow, especially in our attacking half, which was something we did not experience last week. Our legs looked a little heavy. We'll just learn from this experience and move forward."

The Bruins remain undefeated with a 7-0-2 mark, while the Cougars move to 6-1-1. UCLA next plays Sept. 28 at Arizona.
