LOS ANGELES - The fourth-ranked UCLA women's tennis team has a pair of matches on its plate this week, as the Bruins welcome non-conference opponents Loyola Marymount and Cal Poly to the Los Angeles Tennis Center. Action begins on Thursday with UCLA facing LMU at 1:30 p.m. The Bruins will then take on Cal Poly on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The Cal Poly match was actually moved up in the schedule, as it was originally scheduled to take place on April 18. UCLA (3-0) recently qualified for the 2012 ITA National Team Indoor Championships by posting a pair of wins during ITA Kick-Off Weekend last week at the LATC. The Bruins downed Utah, 4-1 in the opening round and followed that up with a 4-0 victory over St. Mary's to qualify for the 16-team tournament. The Bruins check in at No. 4 in the latest ITA rankings released on Jan. 24. After starting the season at No. 5, UCLA moved up a spot when then-No. 4 North Carolina lost to Texas on Jan. 21. New team rankings are scheduled to be released on Thursday. Individually, Robin Anderson is the team's highest ranked singles player at No. 8. She is followed by No. 62 McCall Jones, No. 70 Pamela Montez, No. 83 Courtney Dolehide and No. 112 Kaitlin Ray. One new Bruin player who recently joined the team in January is freshman Chanelle Van Nguyen. The Miami native graduated from high school early to enroll at UCLA. She played at the No. 6 singles spot in the team's first three matches, going 3-0. She has an impressive resume, as she played in three of the four junior Grand Slams and is a former Orange Bowl singles champion in the 16s division.
