Los Angeles - The 13th-ranked UCLA baseball team will host its annual Alumni Game on Saturday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The day's events are highlighted by two exhibition games featuring UCLA alumni - an "Old-Timers" game at 10:30 and the "Young-Timers" contest at noon.
Over 85 former Bruins are scheduled to appear Saturday, with alumni from each of the previous seven decades (1930s through 2000s) slated to take part in the day's events.
Alumni check-in begins at 9 a.m. at the third-base bullpen, and participants will have the opportunity to take batting practice by 9:15. The "Old-Timers" contest, slated for 10:30 a.m., will feature alumni from the 1930s-1979. The afternoon's featured event - the "Young-Timers" game - will showcase the 2007 Bruins against alumni from 1980-2006.
Last season, the 2006 Bruins shutout the Alumni Team, 5-0, as left-hander Dave Huff recorded 10 strikeouts in four innings. The Bruins' pitching staff combined for eight scoreless innings and held the "Young-Timers" alumni team to just three hits. Outfielder Chris Jensen led the Bruins offensively, hitting 2-for-4 with an RBI triple, one single and two runs scored.
Admission and parking is free at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Saturday, Jan. 27. Any former Bruin baseball players who have not yet RSVP'd and are planning on attending can e-mail Alex Timiraos at firstname.lastname@example.org.
