The UCLA men's basketball team reaching the Final Four for the third consecutive year last season was voted among the top local sports moments for 2008 by a panel of media experts. The Bruins' outstanding achievement was recognized at the 4th annual L.A. Sports Awards, held Friday, January 23 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
The L.A. Sports Awards were created by the Los Angeles Sports Council to recognize the year's biggest and best moments in sports in the Los Angeles/Orange County area.
UCLA's moment was #6.
In addition, UCLA winning three NCAA team championships in the month of May was named the school's top moment of the year by an online fan vote.
UCLA Chancellor Gene Block represented the University at the dinner and accepted both awards.
Highlights of the gala will be televised in a one-hour special on FSN Prime Ticket on Friday, January 30, with several repeat broadcasts to follow.
