Box Score

San Diego, Calif. - Third-seeded UCLA exploded for four second-half goals en route to a 5-0 victory over Kentucky in a NCAA second round game at San Diego State on Friday evening. Senior midfielder Chelsea Cline came off the bench to score two of the Bruins' four second-half goals. The Bruins advance to the third round to face the winner of the San Diego State-California evening match.

Ally Courtnall put UCLA ahead 1-0 with a goal at 38:27. Courtnall gobbled up a loose box in the box and shot far right in front of the net for her fourth goal of the season.

The Bruins took a 1-0 lead into halftime and quickly put some distance between them and the Wildcats. Cline, who came in as a substitute in the first half and started the second half, scored a pair of goals seven minutes apart. Cline's first goal, at 51:56 was world-class, a left-footed curling shot to the upper far post from about 20 yards out. Her second goal was earned on her hustle, stealing an errant back pass and heading the ball into an open net from 12 yards out at 58:11. The two goals were Cline's third and fourth of the year.

Kylie McCarthy increased UCLA's lead to 4-0 at 72:55 sliding in a cross from Courtnall from five yards out for her first goal of the season.

Freshman Kodi Lavrusky joined in on the scoring party in the 87th minute, recording her second goal of the year with a curling shot from the left side to the upper right corner from 13 yards out.

"I'm really excited for multiple reasons tonight," said UCLA head coach B.J. Snow. "Certainly the win is great; we scored some good goals. I'm proud of the way we played soccer-wise, but more importantly, I'm really proud of the way we competed for 90 minutes. Every single one of them. It didn't matter who was in the game; everyone competed as hard as they possibly could. In the NCAA Tournament, that's more than half the battle. From that standpoint, I'm really, really happy. We're going to enjoy it for an hour and then we're going to get ready for Sunday."

With the win, the Bruins improve to 17-2-2. Kentucky ends its season at 14-7-1.

The NCAA third round game will take place on Sunday, Nov. 18 at Noon at the SDSU Events Deck.
