Tempe, Ariz. - The five-time defending Pac-10 Champion UCLA women's soccer team began its first conference road trip of the season on a good note Friday evening, posting a 3-0 victory over Arizona State before 1,052 fans at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium.
Both teams were held scoreless for the next 50 minutes until UCLA struck twice in the final 15 minutes. Freshman Sydney Leroux gave the Bruins a 2-0 advantage at the 75:44 mark on an assist from McCall Zerboni. Junior Kara Lang capped the scoring with her third goal of the year on an unassisted strike in the 86th minute.
Bruin goalkeeper Ashley Thompson made two saves on the night, picking up her seventh shutout in the process. UCLA outshot ASU, 20-5. It marked the Bruins' eighth straight victory over the Sun Devils. UCLA now has 12 shutouts in 14 matches this season, outscoring the competition 35-2
With the loss, ASU falls to 6-4-3 overall and 0-2 in the Pac-10.
Next up for the Bruins is a 1:00 p.m. showdown with Arizona on Sunday in Tucson.
