SEATTLE, Wash. - Junior Rachael Kidder paced the sixth-ranked Bruins with 16 kills and 10 digs, while sophomore Kelly Reeves fell just short of her own double-double with nine kills and nine digs in UCLA's three-set loss at #4 Washington on Saturday at Alaska Airlines Arena. Set scores were 26-24, 25-12, 25-20.

The Bruins fall to 9-2 overall and 2-1 in Pac-12 play, while the Huskies improve to 9-1 and 1-1 in league.

Junior Tabi Love added eight kills, while senior Lainey Gera produced 18 digs. The Bruins hit .243 for the match.

UCLA led throughout most of the first set, but the Huskies came on late to steal the opener. The Bruins scored three of the first four thanks to kills by Love and freshman Zoë Nightingale and a solo block by Love, but the Huskies mirrored with a 3-1 run of their own to tie things at four. However, the Bruins scored five in a row and six of seven to go up by five. A kill by sophomore Mariana Aquino and back-to-back blocks by Kidder and then Aquino and Reeves made it 7-4, and two kills in a row by Reeves increased the advantage to 9-4. After a Washington sideout, another combo roof by Aquino and Reeves made it 10-5.

The Bruins would keep their lead between one and four until the Huskies made their run. Down 20-17, Washington scored five in a row to take a 22-20 lead. The Bruins would call timeout and were invigorated from it, scoring three in a row on kills by Kidder and Love and an Aquino/Reeves combo block to go up 23-22, forcing the Huskies into a timeout. Washington came back with the next two to earn set point, but a kill by junior Bojana Todorovic tied things up at 24. But the Huskies scored the final two points of the set to take it 26-24. Kidder had five kills in the opener, Love added four and Reeves posted four kills and three blocks. Gera recorded nine digs, as the Bruins out-hit the Huskies .326 to .271.

UCLA was in the second set for a brief moment, but a long Washington run turned it into a rout. Down 2-0, the Bruins received three straight kills by Kidder, Nightingale and Love to go up 3-2. The lead would be short-lived though, as the Huskies scored five in a row and nine of 10 to take an 11-4 advantage. The Bruins scored two of the next three on kills by Aquino and Reeves, but another 5-1 run pushed the lead to double figures for the first time at 17-7. Washington went on to win the set 25-12. Aquino, Kidder, Reeves and senior Sara Sage each had two kills in the second, as the Bruins were out-hit .481 to .114.

The Huskies finished off the sweep thanks to another run during a couple bad Bruin rotations. UCLA had a 5-4 lead on two kills by Kidder and one apiece from Love, Reeves and Sage, but Washington runs of 3-0 and 10-1 gave the home squad a 14-6 lead. The Huskies' lead stayed between seven and nine until the Bruins made one last stand. Down 23-14, the Bruins scored five straight on a kill by Sage, three in a row from Kidder and a Washington attack error to get to within four at 23-19. But the Huskies went on to win the third 25-20. Kidder had nine of the Bruins' 16 kills in the third, while Reeves added three, as the Bruins were out-hit .323 to .265.

The Bruins return home to face a pair of top five teams next weekend, hosting Stanford on Friday and California on Saturday. Both matches start at 7 p.m. and will feature Gametracker, audio and video at UCLABruins.com.
