Los Angeles - The No. 24 UCLA baseball team defeated Cal State Northridge, 8-3, before a capacity crowd Saturday in the first game of an afternoon doubleheader at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Senior right-hander Tyson Brummett pitched his fifth complete game of the season, striking out eight hitters while issuing just one walk.

The Bruins (20-16) used three home runs to earn the non-conference victory over the Matadors (13-26). First baseman Cody Decker hit his team-leading 10th round-tripper, and center fielder Brady Dolan and designated hitter Casey Haerther each belted their first home runs as Bruins. Decker posted a 2-for-4 effort with two RBI and one run. Haerther finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Dolan hit 2-for-4 with one home run, one double, one RBI and one run.

Matador first baseman Jorge Andrade, Jr., finished the afternoon hitting 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Cal State Northridge took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI-double by Andrade, Jr. The Bruins claimed a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the first when Decker belted a two-run blast over the left field fence. Decker's home run was his team-leading 10th round-tripper of the season.

In the bottom of the second, center fielder Brady Dolan smacked a solo home run to center field, giving UCLA a 3-1 cushion.

Cal State Northridge cut the Bruins' lead to 3-2 in the sixth inning when Andrade, Jr. scored from third base on a pickoff play at first base to end the inning. UCLA responded in the bottom of the frame with two runs, coming off a two-run blast by Haerther to straight-away center.

UCLA padded its lead with three runs in the seventh inning. With runners at first and third, shortstop Brandon Crawford lined a double to the gap in left-center, scoring catcher Ryan Babineau and third baseman Jermaine Curtis. Crawford scored from third on a sacrifice fly to right field by right fielder Gabe Cohen.

The Bruins continue their doubleheader this afternoon at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Left-hander Tim Murphy will take the hill for UCLA, while Cal State Northridge right-hander Joe Rocchio starts for the visiting Matadors.
