HONOLULU, Hawai'i - Senior Rachael Kidder led all players with 13 kills, while sophomore Karsta Lowe recorded 10 kills and no errors in 16 attempts for a .625 hitting percentage, as the third-ranked Bruins swept San Diego State on Saturday at the Verizon Volleyball Challenge. Set scores were 25-11, 25-20, 25-18.

The Bruins improve to 5-1 with the victory, while the Aztecs fall to 5-2.

Senior Bojana Todorovic added 11 digs, while sophomore Megan Moenoa had 26 assists and four digs. Sophomore Zoë Nightingale posted five blocks and three kills and senior Tabi Love notched five kills. The Bruins out-hit the Aztecs .350 to .111.

San Diego State scored the first point of the match, but UCLA came back with six in a row and never trailed by less than four for the rest of the set. Junior Kelly Reeves was a big part of the opening run with two kills, a block solo and a combo roof. The Aztecs sided out, but another five in a row by the Bruins made it 11-2. Nightingale had three kills, while Kidder added two to put the Bruins up by nine.

UCLA led by double figures for the first time at 16-6 in the midst of a 4-0 run. The Bruins led 20-11 and scored the final five points on a SDSU service error, a Nightingale solo block, a Kidder kill, a Reeves ace and another Kidder kill to win it 25-11. Kidder paced UCLA with six kills in the opener, while Love and Nightingale added three apiece. Todorovic tallied six digs, as the Bruins out-hit the Aztecs .500 to .038.

The Bruins never led by more than five in the second set, but didn't trail. UCLA jumped out to a 7-2 lead thanks to two kills from Lowe, a solo block by Nightingale and four San Diego State errors. The Aztecs cut their deficit to one on a pair of occasions at 9-8 and 11-10, but could not get the score equal.

Up 14-12, the Bruins scored four of five on two kills by Kidder, a Moenoa/Nightingale combo block and an SDSU attack error. UCLA's lead remained between two and five for the rest of the set, as Lowe's fifth kill clinched a 25-20 victory. Lowe was 5-for-6 in attempts, while Kidder added four kills. The Bruins held a .259-.065 hitting percentage.

The third set featured seven ties and five lead changes. San Diego State's biggest lead of the set was two, but with the score tied at eight, the Bruins went on a 9-2 run to break it open. Lowe had three kills during the run, Kidder added two, Moenoa recorded a kill and an ace and juniors Mariana Aquino and Meg Norton each posted aces to make it 17-10.

The closest the Aztecs would get the rest of the way was three points. Up 21-17, the Bruins scored four of the last five on four SDSU errors to win the third 25-18. Lowe was 5-for-10 in the third set, while Kidder added three kills. The Bruins out-hit the Aztecs .296 to .212.
