Junior outside hitter Rachael Kidder (Moorpark, CA/ Moorpark HS) of the UCLA women's volleyball team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Aug. 29-Sept. 5.
Kidder was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Rainbow Wahine Volleyball Classic after posting 4.17 kills per set, 2.00 digs per set and 0.92 blocks per set in helping the 12th-ranked Bruins to three wins over ranked squads, including #10 Hawai'i. In the championship match of the tournament on Sunday against the host Rainbow Wahine, Kidder had a double-double with 17 kills and a career-high 12 digs, adding two aces and six blocks, which tied a personal best. She led or tied for the team lead in kills in each of the last three sets.
Kidder, the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, led the Bruins in kills in their other two wins on Thursday and Friday versus #23 Long Beach State and #22 Ohio State. Against the 49ers, she recorded 18 kills, six digs and four blocks, leading the Bruins in kills in the first, third and fourth sets. Against the Buckeyes, Kidder, who leads the Bruins with 3.72 kills per set, added 15 kills and six digs, leading the Bruins in kills in the final two sets.
This is Kidder's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and fourth of her career.
