UCLA COACH AND PLAYER QUOTES
Head coach Jillian Ellis
"We're thrilled to be here. It's been a fantastic journey for us and we are excited to be part of another college cup. It's a wonderful facility, Cary does a great job hosting and we're excited. I think the best four teams in the country are here and I think it's going to be a fantastic tournament."
On the whirlwind of the last three or four months being an assistant coach for Team USA
The experience of being an assistant coach is very valuable. It's been a long time since I've had that role and I think it was good. The things I've taken away from that experience have definitely served me well through the season. Coming into the season, it was a long road and it was fatiguing, but also exciting at the prospect of starting a season. I think for them and for myself the momentum and the familiarity grew after being apart for six months.
On playing North Carolina's 3-4-3
It's actually their depth and their ability to sustain pressure. Trying to exploit the weaknesses in the women's game of being able to handle the ball and deal with pressure. We know that they have the depth. The big thing for us is we know the ball moves faster than the legs so if we can push the ball around in a good rhythm and keep possession, we'll create chances. Our defensive unit has been outstanding this year, I think front to back we're defending better as a team and I think we'll generate some pressure."
Redshirt Junior Kara Lang
On being part of the Canadian Olympic team and a part of the College Cup
"I think after the Olympics I was extremely excited to come back and put on a blue jersey. I missed my team a lot over the summer. I think that we were excited to get this season going with the players that we have and the team that we have. The attitude that we brought into the season this year, we knew this was going to be a good one from the beginning. We're really excited to have the chance to compete against the three best teams in the country."
On her different experiences with a college team and a national team
"There is obviously a lot of differences. On the national level it is very much business. It is a business in its own right and is very, very professional. Not to say that this isn't professional, but there is also that aspect of being on a team with your peers and their friends and that kind of brings a different dynamic."
Senior McCall Zerboni
On past disappointments at this event in years gone by - what it was like emotionally and how that drives motivation for this year
"Emotionally for the past three years, especially for seniors it's been tough to come here every year and be disappointed. We've done things differently every year and just hope that we do the right things this year."
