SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The No. 3 UCLA women's water polo team improved to 5-0 on the year with an 11-5 victory over Pacific on Saturday morning in the first game of the UC Santa Barbara Winter Invitational. Freshman attacker Rachel Fattal (Seal Beach, Calif.) led the Bruins in scoring with two goals against the Tigers.
In the win over the Tigers (0-2), UCLA had 10 different players score goals. A total of nine Bruins scored one goal apiece. Freshmen India Forster, Maddy McLaren and Alexa Tielmann each scored one goal as did sophomores Danielle Ferraro and Emily Donohoe. Rounding out the scoring for the Bruins were juniors Kelly Ronimus, Becca Dorst and Victoria Kent and senior Gisselle Naranjo.
The Bruins raced out to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter before tacking on three goals in the second period to build a 7-0 lead by halftime. Both teams scored one goal each in the third period, leaving UCLA with an 8-1 lead heading into the fourth. The Tigers managed to outscore the Bruins in the fourth quarter, netting four goals to UCLA's three.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Sami Hill, played the first three periods, recording a career-high 16 saves. Sophomore Sarah Wilkey played in goal for the Bruins in the four period, making two stops. Michele Relton was credited with 12 saves for Pacific.
