SAN JOSE, Calif. - No. 4 UCLA women's water polo defeated No. 9 San Jose State, 15-8, on Friday afternoon in San Jose, Calif. Sophomore Emily Donohoe scored a career-high six goals to lead the Bruins.

It was UCLA's fourth straight victory as the Bruins had eight players score goals while snapping the Spartans' two-match winning streak.

Rae Lekness gave San Jose State a 1-0 lead with a goal at the 6:48 mark of the first period. The Bruins took a 2-1 lead after getting back-to-back goals from Donohoe (5:42) and freshman Rachel Fattal (4:37). Anna Natalizio tied it at 2-2 with a goal at the 4:09 mark of the first period. UCLA ended the first quarter with a 4-2 lead after freshman Alexa Tielmann (3:17 and 1:39).

The second period was the lowest scoring of the game, with UCLA holding SJSU to just one goal while netting three to take a 7-3 lead at the break. The Bruins sruck first in the second with a goal from Donohoe (7:02). Victoria Smith scored the lone Spartan goal of the second period on a power play to make it 5-3 UCLA with 6:26 left. The Bruins scored the final two goals of the period when Gisselle Naranjo scored her lone goal of the day (2:31) and then Alys Williams netted her only goal on a power play with 55 seconds left.

The Bruins jumped out to a 9-3 lead at the start of the third period when Donohoe scored her third and fourth goals of the game (7:04 - advantage goal; 6:15 - full strength goal). Fattal scored her second of the day on a power play (5:25) and Victoria Kent scored her only goal of the game with 1:20 left in the third as the Bruins ended the period with an 11-5 advantage.

UCLA outscored SJSU 4-3 in the fourth period. San Jose State scored the first two goals of the period to close the gap to 11-7 with 5:17 remaining. But the Bruins would answer with four straight scores to push the lead to 15-7 with just 42 seconds left. Donohoe scored her fifth (3:30) and sixth (1:50 - power play) goals of the game in the run. The Bruins also received goals from Kelly Ronimus (2:41) and Danielle Ferraro (:42) during that stretch. San Jose State's Timi Molnar completed a hat trick with 14 seconds left to provide the final score, UCLa 15, SJSU 8.

In goal, Bruin redshirt sophomore Sami Hill played the entire game, registering seven saves. Maddie Reardon was credited with eight stops in the cage for the Spartans, which dropped to 10-8 overall and 0-3 in the MPSF.

The Bruins, now 20-3 overall and 3-1 in the MPSF, return to action later today when they take on Santa Clara at 4 p.m.
