Athens, Ga. - Three UCLA tennis players were in action on Wednesday at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, being played this week at the University of Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Freshman Robin Anderson (Matawan, N.J.), who is seeded No. 4 in the 64-player singles draw, posted a 6-3, 6-0 win over Courtney Collins of Memphis on Wednesday afternoon. She then came back on Thursday to defeat Rice's Natalie Beazant, 6-4, 6-4 in the second round. Anderson also beat Beazant, 6-0, 6-1 in the team's 4-0 dual-match win over the Owls in the round of 16 last Thursday.
Next up for Anderson is a meeting with Cal's Zsofi Susanyi in Friday's round of 16. Zsofi is a 9-16 seed in the singles draw. The two players met once this season, with Susanyi winning 6-3, 6-4 in a dual match at UCLA on Feb. 24.
UCLA's two players in the men's singles draw didn't fare as well as Anderson on Wednesday, as both Nick Meister and Adrien Puget suffered first-round losses. Meister, a 9-16 seed, fell to LSU's Neal Skupski, 6-1, 6-2. Puget lost to fifth-seeded Henrique Cunha of Duke, 7-5, 6-0.
