LOS ANGELES - The No. 4 UCLA women's water polo team (21-4, 3-2 MPSF) hosts Loyola Marymount on Friday (7:00 p.m.) followed by a double-header on Saturday with Cal Baptist (1:00 p.m.) and Pomona-Pitzer (3:00 p.m.) at Spieker Aquatics Center.
BRUINS AMONG MPSF SCORING LEADERS
Sophomore attacker Emily Donohoe leads UCLA in scoring with 56 goals (2.24 goals per game), which ranks seventh in the MPSF. Freshman Rachel Fattal is second on team in scoring with 41 goals (1.64 goals per game), which ranks 14th in the MPSF. Freshman center Alexa Tielmann is third on the team in scoring with 23 goals while freshman defender Alys Williams is fourth on the squad with 21 goals. Senior attacker Gisselle Naranjo and sophomore attacker Danielle Ferraro are tied for fifth on the squad in scoring with 20 goals each.
IN THE CAGE
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper, Sami Hill is currently second in the MPSF in saves per game at 10.72. She is also third in the MPSF in goals against, giving up 5.92 per game. Hill is also second on the team with 25 assists and is fourth on the squad with 17 steals. Freshman Alex Musselman hasn't played enough games to qualify for MPSF rankings, but she has allowed just 5.80 goals per game and is averaging 6.92 saves per game.
True freshman Rachel Fattal leads the Bruins in steals (31), sprints won (31) and field blocks (19) and is second in scoring (41 goals) and in exclusions drawn (20) and is third in assists (23).
HILL ON THE ASSIST
Freshman attacker Kodi Hill leads the team in assists with 26 on the year. Hill also has 10 goals, 14 steals and is tied for third on the squad with six field blocks on the year.
BROOKS ON DECK FOR YEAR FOUR
Brandon Brooks is in his fourth season as UCLA's head women's water polo coach in 2013. He was named the third head coach in program history on June 3, 2009, and has compiled a 92-23 (.800) record.
RECAPPING LAST WEEK
The No. 4 women's water polo team dropped an MPSF match at No. 2 Stanford, 8-1, last week. Emily Donohoe scored the lone goal for the Bruins, which dropped to 21-4 overall and 3-2 in the MPSF with the loss.
SCOUTING LOYOLA MARYMOUNT
The Bruins host 11th-ranked LMU on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The Lions are 17-9 overall and in second place in the Western Water Polo Association with a 6-1 league mark. Loyola Marymount is led by junior driver Alexandra Honny (Riverside, CA), who leads the team in goals (41), assists (29) and steals (58). Senior utility Jessica Morelos (Santa Barbara, CA) is second in scoring with 38 goals. Freshman goalkeeper Claire Wright (Lindsay, Ontario, Canada) has played in 16 games and is averaging 6.8 saves per game while allowing 6.0 goals per contest.
SCOUTING CAL BAPTIST
The Bruins host Cal Baptist on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. The Lancers are 16-16 overall and are on a modest two-game winning streak. Cal Baptist is led by sophomore utility Laura Kocsis (Budapest, Hungary), who leads the team in goals (77), and is fourth in assists (25) and is second in steals (34) in 31 games played. Freshman two-meter Hannah Evans (Menifee, CA) is second in scoring with 61 goals and she leads the Lancers with 73 exclusions drawn in 28 games. Freshman goalkeeper Meghan Rowland (Corona, CA) leads the team with 121 saves and is second in steals with 42.
The Bruins host 5th-ranked (Division III) Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. The Sagehens are 11-15 overall and 2-2 in the SCIAC. Pomona-Pitzer is led by sophomore utility Alyssa Woodward (Riverside, CA), who leads the team with 64 goals. Freshman utility Katy Schafer (Los Altos, CA) is second in scoring with 43 goals while sophomore attacker Sarah Westcott (Menlo Park, CA) rounds out the top three in scoring with 41 goals. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Tuggy (Los Angeles, CA) has played in 26 games and is averaging 9.1 saves per game.
