The 12th-ranked men's and 21st-ranked Bruins took to the Strehle Track Saturday to compete in the 27th Pomona Pitzer Invitational, highlighted by a record-setting performance from sprinter Brea Buchanan, who ran a meet record 13.17 on her way to a victory in the 100m hurdles.

Buchanan was closely trailed by fellow Bruin Trinity Wilson, who finished second overall (13.80). Buchanan, the fifth place finisher in the 60m hurdles at the NCAA Indoor Championships this past March, is on the radar for another potential postseason appearance in the short distance hurdle event. Coming into the weekend, she had a season best 13.26, which ranked t-12th nationally. With today's result, she is poised to jump into the nation's top-ten.

The Bruins also had a winning performance from sophomore Kelly Rhines, one member of the Bruin sprinting quad, took fifth place in the 100m dash (11.91) and followed her result with another fifth place effort in the 200m dash (24.20).

The women's short distance success continued throughout the day, as Turquoise Thompson took second place in the 400m dash (52.62), followed by teammate Danielle Low in ninth (56.55).

The No. 21 Bruin women also had a solid day on the field, with third place finishes from Natasha Kolbo and Courtney Reginato in the pole vault (3.85m/12-7.50), as well as another third place finish from Jaycee Olsen in the discus throw (45.49m/149-3).

On the men's side, the No. 12 Bruins claimed a victory in the 4x400 relay (3:12.41) to highlight their day in Claremont. The team of Jarrett Gonzales put together a season-best performance in the 4x400m relay for the Bruin men, whose youthful core has proved essential in relay situations this season.

The freshman Gonzales also had a big day in the 400m hurdles. This time, without the relay team, the Chino Hills native finished third overall (53.90) in the hurdle event.

Other top finishes for the Bruin men included: Yusef Merriweather's fifth place result in the 100m dash (10.57); an eighth place finish from Pete Lauderdale in the 200m dash (21.62); a third place finish for Michael Perry in the long jump (7.14m/23-5.50); and finally another third place finish for Nigel Davies in the shot put (15.68m/51-5.50).

Outside of collegiate competition, Julian Wruck (Brisbane, Queensland, Australia) continued to dominate the field, this time at the Australian Athletics Championships in Sydney. Wruck, representing Queensland, claimed the men's discus throw title (66.32m/217-7) Saturday at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre.

The No. 12/21 Bruins have a short week of rest before heading to Walnut, CA, for the Mt. SAC Relays April 18-20.
