LOS ANGELES - Late goals from Lauren Barnes and Chelsea Braun propelled the No. 11 UCLA women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over visiting San Diego on Friday evening at Drake Stadium.

Following a scoreless first half, UCLA (6-2-1) got the opportunity it needed in the 78th minute when San Diego (5-3-2) was called for a foul about 23 yards out from their own goal. Barnes stepped up to take the kick, converting on a low bouncing strike that just beat Torero goalkeeper Courtney Parsons.

The Bruins took a 2-0 lead less than 10 minutes later, as Braun scored her first collegiate goal at the 86:53 mark. The play started when Charney Burk dribbled down the left side and slid a ball over to Dana Wall, who was standing near the top of the corner of the box. Wall was able to slip by her defender before sliding a ball across the top of the box to Braun, who ran onto it and finished it from about 10 yards out.

The Bruins owned a 15-8 advantage in shots on the night, including an 8-3 lead in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Chante' Sandiford finished with four saves while picking up her sixth win of the season.

UCLA was without the services of leading scorer Sydney Leroux on Friday, as she is in a training camp with the U.S. Women's National Team in Kennesaw, Ga. It marks Leroux's first-ever camp with the U.S. Women.

The Bruins return to Drake Stadium on Sunday, hosting No. 10 Santa Clara at 1:00 p.m.
