Junior setter Nellie Spicer (Barrington, IL/Barrington HS) of the UCLA women's volleyball team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 4-9.
Spicer moved into fifth all-time on the UCLA assists list on Friday at UC Irvine, and for the second-straight week, she was named tournament MVP, earning the honors at last weekend's UC Irvine/Nike Invitational. Against the host Anteaters on Friday, Spicer had 49 assists and 13 digs for her 34th career double-double. In the third game, Spicer set-up her 40th assist, which gave her 3,401 for her career to move past Kim Coleman onto fifth on the all-time Bruin list. Spicer was rested in Saturday morning's match against William & Mary and played two of the three games against Southern Miss later that evening, posting 33 assists to give her a career total of 3,443. The junior is averaging 12.87 assists per game and is third on the team with 3.09 digs per game.
This is Spicer's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
