Dec. 10, 2007
Junior outside hitter Kaitlin Sather (Santa Rosa, CA/Maria Carrillo HS) of the UCLA women's volleyball team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Dec. 3-9.
Sather posted a double-double in UCLA's NCAA Regional semifinal victory over Oregon on Friday and followed that up with a career-high kill performance against top-seeded Stanford on Saturday. For her efforts, Sather was named to the Stanford Regional All-Tournament Team. Against Oregon, Sather had 13 kills and 17 digs for her 20th double-double of the season. The junior added five blocks to account for 16.5 of the Bruins' points. The following night in the Regional final against the host Cardinal, Sather had 10 of UCLA's 19 game-one kills to lead the Bruins to the win. The game-one victory for UCLA marked the first set Stanford had dropped in the NCAA Tournament. She finished the match with a career-high 23 kills with a .321 hitting percentage to go along with seven digs. Leading the Bruins in kills in three of their four postseason matches, Sather finished the season in the team lead in kills per game at 3.76, also finishing above 3.00 digs per game at 3.05.
This is Sather's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
