UCLA's Jeff Locke was announced today as one of the candidates for the 2011 Ray Guy Award which is presented annually by the Augusta, GA Sports Council to the nation's top collegiate punter.

Locke, a redshirt junior, is ranked 14th nationally and fourth in the Pac-12 conference with a 44.94 average. He has placed 13 kicks inside the 20-yard line and has a long punt of 70 yards this season. Locke's career punting average of 44.74 yards places him first on the all-time UCLA list. He also handles the Bruin kickoff duties and leads the Pac-12 with 18 touchbacks. Locke filled in at placekicker earlier this season and booted 51 and 49-yard field goals against Texas.

The current list of 54 candidates will be narrowed to ten semi-finalists to be announced on November 11. A national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, coaches, media representatives, and previous Ray Guy Award winners will vote for the top three finalists, who will be identified on November 21. The voting body will then cast ballots to select the winner.

The presentation of the Ray Guy Award will be featured on The Home Depot College Football Awards live on Thursday, December 8 at 6:00 p.m. PT on ESPN.

The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor Georgia native, NFL standout and College Football Hall of Fame inductee, Ray Guy.
