LOS ANGELES - After suffering a 4-2 loss to Baylor three weeks ago at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoors, the No. 10 UCLA women's tennis team got its revenge on Thursday, posting a commanding 6-1 victory over the ninth-ranked Bears at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. UCLA, which has now won five of its last six matches, improves to 11-4 on the season. With the loss, Baylor's record falls to 8-2 overall.

Similar to the Bears' victory in Virginia on Feb. 20, UCLA came out strong in doubles again on Thursday, winning the point by taking two of three matches. UCLA's Maya Johansson and Pamela Montez got things started for the Bruins with a dominant 8-1 win over Karolina Filipiak and Taylor Ormond at court No. 3. That win was followed by another superb performance, this time at court No. 2, as Noelle Hickey and McCall Jones downed Diana Nakic and Sona Novakova, 8-3 to clinch the doubles point for UCLA.

Despite the slight advantage heading into singles play, UCLA knew the match was far from over, as Baylor had fought back after dropping the doubles point in the earlier showdown. However, a pair of dominating straight-set Bruin wins by Johansson (court No. 6) and Hickey (court No. 2) quickly gave the Bruins a 3-0 lead.

Things looked even better for UCLA when Jones and Courtney Dolehide each had match point at the same time at court Nos. 1 and 5, respectively. Jones would get the honor of clinching the match, upsetting Novakova, who is ranked No. 11 nationally, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 to give the Bruins an insurmountable 4-0 lead. It was a big win for Jones, whose upset over one of the country's best players snapped a six-match losing streak. Dolehide would end up winning shortly thereafter, as she beat Filipiak, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.

The two teams split the final two matches of the day, with Baylor's Nina Secerbegovic beating Andrea Remynse, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 at court No. 3, while Montez downed Jelena Stanivuk, 6-7(6), 7-5, (10-8).

UCLA's next match will be against Hawai'i on March 21 in Kona.
