Bruins Head to Boulder for Matches Against Colorado, Denver
The No. 10 UCLA women's soccer team (4-1-1) hits the road this week, traveling to Boulder, Colo. for the Omni Hotels Colorado Women's Soccer Classic, Sept. 17 & 19. The Bruins open up the event against Denver (5-1) this Friday at 1:30 p.m. (MST). UCLA then has a day off before taking on host Colorado (3-3) on Sunday, also at 1:30 p.m. (MST). Live stats for the matches can be accessed HERE.
UCLA owns 2-0 records against both Denver and Colorado. The last time the Bruins faced both teams was during the 2005 season, with UCLA beating Denver, 1-0 during the regular season and Colorado, 3-0 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Both of those matches were at Drake Stadium.
Bruins Take Down Fighting Irish, 2-1 in Overtime
Freshman Jenna Richmond had her biggest game as a Bruin thus far, scoring both UCLA goals in a 2-1 overtime upset of No. 3 Notre Dame last Friday evening at Drake Stadium. After scoring in the 20th minute, Richmond netted her second goal of the match, the game winner, a little over four minutes into overtime on a re-directed cross into the box from fellow freshman Ariana Martinez. It marked UCLA's first-ever win over Notre Dame in three meetings. It was also the first time that the Bruins and Fighting Irish have met since the 2004 NCAA Final in Cary, N.C.
Bruins and Gauchos Play to 1-1 Draw
Just two days after notching an emotional 2-1 overtime victory over No. 3 Notre Dame, the Bruins returned to Drake Stadium and played to a 1-1 draw with visiting UC Santa Barbara. The Gauchos scored their lone goal of the match on a failed UCLA clearance that bounced off the back of a UCSB player and into the goal. Following a 1-0 UCSB lead at the half, the Bruins answered in the 67th minute on a penalty kick by defender Lauren Barnes. Both teams then failed to score for the remainder of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods.
Freshman Jenna Richmond was recognized for her outstanding play over the weekend, as the Bruin midfielder has been named to the Team of the Week by both Top Drawer Soccer and CollegeSoccer360.com. Playing in just her fifth college match, Richmond scored both UCLA goals in a 2-1 upset of No. 3 Notre Dame last Friday.
Bruins to Play Five-Straight at Home
Following this weekend's trip to Colorado, UCLA returns to Los Angeles to play fight consecutive home matches beginning with San Diego on Sept. 24. The Bruins will then host Santa Clara (9/26) and Pepperdine (10/1) before opening up Pac-10 Conference play at home with Cal (10/8) and Stanford (10/10). Click HERE for the complete 2010 schedule.
Bruins Back in Top 10 Nationally
After falling out of the top 10 following its loss to Northwestern on Aug. 29, UCLA is once again among the top 10 teams in the country, as Soccer America moved the Bruins up from No. 13 to No. 10 this week. UCLA also moved up a spot from No. 13 to No. 12 in the latest NSCAA Coaches' Poll.
Leroux Called Up to U.S. Women's National Team
Forward Sydney Leroux received her first-ever invitation to the U.S. Women's National Team on Sept. 7, as the junior was one of 30 players who were named to the preliminary roster for two matches against China in early October. Leroux, who has been a star on the Under-20 U.S. team in recent years, will travel to Kennesaw, Ga. later this month for a training camp in preparation for the matches on Oct. 2 & 6. Both matches will take place at the Kennesaw State University Soccer Stadium. Click HERE for the official U.S. Soccer release.

Home Winning Streak Ends, Unbeaten Streak Continues
UCLA saw its 65-match home winning streak come to an end on Sunday, as UC Santa Barbara posted a 1-1 tie with the Bruins at Drake Stadium. Prior to that tie, UCLA's last draw at home was on Oct. 23, 2005 (0-0 vs. Washington State). It was the longest current home winning streak in the country until Sunday. One streak that did not end, however, is the nation's longest home unbeaten streak, as the Bruins pushed that to 71 in a row. UCLA's last loss at home was on Sept. 9, 2005 (2-1 double-overtime vs. Penn State).
Ledezma Sees First Action
U.S. Youth National Team player Natalia Ledezma saw her first action as a Bruin against Notre Dame last Friday, as she entered the match in the 30th minute in the Bruins' 2-1 victory over the Fighting Irish. She also saw limited action as a reserve against UC Santa Barbara on Sunday. Ledezma, a highly-touted freshman out of La Mirada, Calif., has been slow to break the Bruin lineup due to injuries.
