Redshirt sophomore forward Kara Lang (Oakville, ON/St. Thomas Aquinas HS) of the UCLA women's soccer team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 24-30.
Playing in her first collegiate match since the 2005 NCAA Tournament, Lang marked her return to UCLA in style on Friday evening, scoring both Bruin goals in a 2-1 upset of second-ranked Portland. Lang, who missed all of last year with a knee injury and the first seven matches of the 2007 season while representing Canada in the FIFA Women's World Cup, got UCLA on the board in the ninth minute, blasting a 30-yard shot over Portland goalkeeper Kelsey Davis. After Portland tied the match in the 85th minute to eventually send the game into overtime, Lang scored the game-winning goal at the 96:57 mark with a with a 20-yard shot that bounced off Davis and into the goal, giving the Bruins the 2-1 upset. The win helped UCLA extend its home unbeaten streak to 31 matches.
This is Lang's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and third of her career.
