Box Score

LOS ANGELES - Senior Amanda Kamekona and junior Kaila Shull each hit home runs, while sophomore Donna Kerr struck out eight in a one-hitter, as the second-ranked Bruins defeated Oregon 8-0 in six innings on Friday at Easton Stadium.

The Bruins improve to 36-9 overall and 11-5 in Pac-10 play, while the Ducks fall to 15-30 and 2-14 in league action.

Kamekona finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI, while sophomore GiOnna DiSalvatore went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in. Junior Megan Langenfeld reached in all four plate appearances on a single and three walks. Kerr improved to 16-6 in the circle, only surrendering a bloop hit to Neena Bryant with two outs in the fourth inning. The sophomore also walked a pair.

The Bruins jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on Shull's 10th home run of the season to right-center. In the bottom of the third, UCLA added two more. Sophomore Monica Harrison led off with a single to left-center, and one out later, freshman Andrea Harrison singled to left. Junior Megan Langenfeld then walked to load the bases and DiSalvatore drove in the Bruins' second run on a sacrifice fly to right-center to plate Monica Harrison. With sophomore Grace Murray pinch-running for Andrea Harrison and moving to third on the sac fly, Kamekona drove her in with a single to right to make it 3-0.

UCLA tacked on three more in the fifth. Langenfeld walked and was pinch-run for by freshman Marti Reed. DiSalvatore then singled and both her and Reed moved up on a double steal. Both runners again moved up when Mikayla Endicott was called for an illegal pitch, plating Reed to make it 4-0. Kamekona extended the Bruins' advantage to 6-0 on her seventh home run of the season to left-center.

The Bruins invoked the mercy rule for the 11th time this season in the sixth. Sophomore Katie Schroeder reached on a bunt single to open the inning, and one out later, stole second. Langenfeld then walked and both her and Schroeder moved up on a passed ball. DiSalvatore followed with a single up the middle, plating Schroeder to make it 7-0, as Langenfeld moved to third and DiSalvatore advanced to second on the throw home. One out later, Shull tapped a ball to Oregon first baseman Carlyn Re, but she bobbled it, allowing Shull to reach and Langenfeld to score the Bruins' eighth and final run.

Sam Skillingstad (11-13) started for the Ducks and allowed three runs, five hits and one walk in three innings with three strikeouts. Endicott tossed one-plus inning, giving up three runs, four hits and one walk, while Brittany Rumfelt threw 1 2/3 frames, allowing two runs (one earned), two hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

The Bruins continue their six-game homestand on Saturday when they host Oregon State at 3 p.m. A large crowd is expected, so fans are encouraged to arrive early, as all seats are general admission. Gates open at 1:30 p.m. Gametracker and live audio will be available at UCLABruins.com.
