Series History with Pepperdine
After dropping its first two meetings ever with Pepperdine (both in 1993), UCLA is unbeaten in its last 13 showdowns with the Waves. The Bruins take a 12-2-1 series record into this Friday's contest. The two teams squared off in Malibu last year, with UCLA coming away with a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Sydney Leroux (PK) and Chelsea Cline.

UCLA Shuts Out WCC Opponents at Home
UCLA notched a pair of home shutouts last weekend, downing San Diego, 2-0 on Friday and No. 10 Santa Clara, 1-0 on Sunday. The Bruins and Toreros played scoreless soccer for most of the match until UCLA defender Lauren Barnes scored on a free kick at the 77:28 mark. Freshman midfielder Chelsea Braun then added an insurance goal in the 87th minute to put the game away. The Bruins followed up the San Diego victory with a 1-0 win over 10th-ranked Santa Clara on Sunday thanks to a 33rd minute goal from reserve Iman Bearde. Despite being separated by just one spot in the national rankings, UCLA had the better of the play on Sunday, owning a 14-4 advantage in the final shot count.

Barnes Recognized
Defender Lauren Barnes was named one of this week's "Primetime Performers" for the soccer website CollegeSoccer360.com. She was instrumental in helping the team surrender just four shots on goal in a pair of Bruin shutouts over San Diego and No. 10 Santa Clara. Barnes also notched the game-winning goal in the team's 2-0 win over USD.

Bruins Up to No. 9
Wins over San Diego and No. 10 Santa Clara propelled UCLA back into the top 10 this week, as the Bruins move up from No. 11 to No. 9 in this week's Soccer America Rankings. UCLA also moved up from No. 15 to No. 11 in the latest NSCAA/HendrickCars.com National Rankings released on Tuesday.

Leroux Continues in Kennesaw
Forward Sydney Leroux's status for this Friday's match with Pepperdine is still up in the air, as the Bruin junior continues to train with the U.S. Women's National Team in Kennesaw, Ga. The team is preparing for two upcoming domestic matches against China on Oct. 2 (Kennesaw) and Oct. 6 (Chester, Pa). If Leroux makes head coach Pia Sundhage's final roster, she will obviously miss this Friday's match against the Waves. The good news for UCLA is that even if Leroux is fortunate enough to make the team, she will be home in time for two crucial conference matches against Cal (Oct. 8) and Stanford (Oct. 10). The training camp marks Leroux's first call up with the U.S. Women. Click HERE to access U.S. Soccer's blog from Kennesaw.
