Los Angeles, Calif. - The 10th-ranked UCLA Baseball team dropped the second game of its series with sixth-ranked Oregon State, falling to the Beavers by a score of 5-0 in front of 1,001 fans at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Junior right-hander Nick Vander Tuig took the loss for the Bruins, despite putting together a strong performance on the mound. Vander Tuig lasted 6.2 innings, giving up just two runs on seven hits while striking out six. Andrew Moore earned the win for Oregon State after allowing no runs on four hits in 6.2 innings of work.

After both sides failed to score in the first two innings, the Beavers scored in the top of the third to take a 1-0 lead. With runners on first and second, Joey Jansen doubled to right-center, scoring Andy Peterson. Ryan Barnes attempted to score from first, but juniors Brian Carroll and Pat Valaika combined with sophomore catcher Shane Zeile for an 8-6-2 putout of Barnes at the plate, keeping the deficit at just one run.

Oregon State added to their lead in the top of the fifth, when Nate Esposito singled in Kavin Keyes from third to make it 2-0 Beavers. In the top of the seventh, UCLA found itself in a little bit of a jam as the Beavers put runners on first and second with two outs. However, freshman James Kaprielian came in to relieve Vander Tuig and struck out Peterson on three pitches to end the inning.

The Bruins' offense was unable to muster anything in the seventh and eighth innings and in the top of the ninth, Oregon State took advantage of some good fortune to go ahead by five runs. With two outs and runners on second and third, freshman Cody Poteet induced what looked to be an easy grounder to second from Peterson that would end the inning. The ball took a bad hop though and skipped away from second baseman Trent Chatterton, allowing the runners to score. The Beavers tacked on another run after that and held UCLA scoreless in the bottom of the ninth to earn the 5-0 win.

Sophomore Kevin Kramer reached base in all four of his plate appearances in the ballgame, going 2-2 with two singles, a walk and a hit by pitch. Zeile followed that up with another 2-4 effort while Chatterton and senior Cody Regis recorded hits as well.

UCLA (19-8, 7-4 Pac-12) will wrap up its series with Oregon State (24-5, 6-2 Pac-12) tomorrow at Jackie Robinson Stadium at 1 p.m.
