LOS ANGELES - In a game that featured seven home runs, junior Jessica Hall and sophomore Gracie Goulder each went yard for the 19th-ranked Bruins, but #17 Texas A&M hit five bombs and posted a 7-6 victory in eight innings on Sunday at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament at Easton Stadium.

Goulder had a pair of hits, as did freshman Brittany Moeai, while junior Alyssa Tiumalu had three singles, as the trio combined for seven of the Bruins' nine hits. In the circle, sophomore Ally Carda started and struck out nine in six innings, but allowed five runs, 11 hits and three walks. Hall tossed two innings of relief and gave up two runs (one earned), one hit and one walk with one strikeout.

All seven Texas A&M (4-0) runs were scored via the long ball, starting in the first when Nicole Morgan hit a two-out, solo shot to left. After the Aggies left the bases loaded and the Bruins (3-1) stranded a pair in the second, Texas A&M extended its lead with a two-run, two-out homer by Cali Lanphear in the third to go ahead 3-0.

The Bruins had their chances, but after leaving a pair in the second, left two more in the third and fourth innings. In the top of the fifth and sixth frames, Carda worked her way out of a pair of bases-loaded jams to keep the deficit at three. A foul out on Lanphear and a ground out by Jenna Stark stopped the Aggies in the fifth. One inning later, a Mel Dumezich line out with two outs and the bases full turned away Texas A&M.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Bruins got some help to get closer. Tiumalu led off with a single up the middle, and two outs later, moved to second on a walk to freshman Mysha Sataraka. Senior Devon Lindvall then tapped a ball to short, but Taran Tyler bobbled it, picked it up and threw it into her own dugout. Tiumalu was awarded two bases, while Sataraka gained three to score the Bruins' second run.

The Aggies increased their advantage in the top of the seventh when Cassie Tysarczyk and Lanphear hit back-to-back homers to open the inning to make it 5-2.

The Bruins finally got into the home run act on the first pitch of the bottom of the seventh, as Goulder belted her first bomb as a Bruin to right to make it 5-3. One out later, sophomore Stephany LaRosa drew a walk and was pinch-run for by sophomore Tara Mueller. A Dumezich strikeout of Tiumalu put the Aggies one out away, but Hall came through with a first-pitch homer to right to tie the score at five. Singles by Moeai and Sataraka gave the Bruins a chance to win it in regulation, but Dumezich fanned Lindvall to end the inning.

With the international tiebreaker rule in effect for the eighth, and a runner starting the inning at second, Brittany Clopton was sacrificed to third by Emily Albus. Meagan May then brought Clopton and herself in on a homer to center to put the Aggies ahead 7-5.

In the bottom of the eighth, Lindvall was placed at second and moved to third on another fielding error by Tyler at short with Carda up. One out later, a deep fly ball to right off the bat of senior B.B. Bates scored Lindvall to make it a one-run game. However, A&M reliever Lauren Ainsley retired LaRosa on a ground out to short to end the game.

The Bruins are back in action next weekend, as they head one state over for the UNLV/Easton Desert Classic. UCLA begins the tournament on Friday at two different sites, taking on Ohio at 1:30 p.m. at Stephanie Lynn Craig Park in Henderson, Nev., followed by a 6 p.m. matchup with #23 Hawai'i at UNLV's Eller Media Stadium. The Bruins also face San Jose State (9 a.m.) and Seattle University (11:15 a.m.) at SLC Park on Saturday and Louisiana-Monroe at SLC on Sunday at 9 a.m. Gametracker for all games will be available at UCLABruins.com, as well as live updates via twitter.com/uclasoftball.
