SCOUTING THE STANFORD CARDINAL
Stanford is looking for its first Pac-12 series win, having been swept by California and losing two of three at Arizona and against Oregon last weekend. Runs were not at a premium last weekend in Palo Alto, as Stanford scored 20, but gave up 26 in a series loss to the Ducks. The Cardinal are hitting .332 as a team on the season with 14 home runs, 42 stolen bases and 5.9 runs per game. Freshman Hanna Winter is tops on the squad with a .457 average and 10 stolen bases. Six others are hitting over .300, including junior Jenna Rich (.382), the team leader in homers (5) and RBI (43) and reigning USA Softball National Player of the Year and senior Ashley Hansen (.373), who also has six triples, two homers and 30 RBI. During Pac-12 play, Stanford is hitting .262 with three homers, five stolen bases and 3.2 runs per game. Winter also leads the way in average at .424 and steals with three, with freshman Leah White, who is batting .392 overall, second at .414. Junior Teagan Gerhart has been the workhorse in the circle, posting a 23-6 record, a 2.32 earned run average and 151 strikeouts in 169 innings. Freshman Nyree White is 5-4 with a 3.79 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 75 2/3 innings. In Pac-12 play, both have seen their ERA's rise, as Gerhart is 2-5 with a 5.51 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 40 2/3 innings, while White is 0-2 with a 7.64 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 18 1/3 innings.

THE MATCHUP: BRUINS VS. CARDINAL
UCLA leads the all-time series 54-16, but Stanford took last year's set at Easton Stadium. The first contest was a marathon affair, which lasted four hours and two minutes. The Bruins came back to tie the game twice with two runs in the seventh and one in the 13th before a walk-off homer by Andrea Harrison in the 14th gave the home team a 6-5 win. Harrison finished the game 3-for-6 with three RBI and two homers, while Samantha Camuso, Talee Snow and Alyssa Tiumalu each added two hits. Despite a pair of two-hit contests by Katie Schroeder in the last two games of the series, the Cardinal posted 6-2 and 5-1 victories. UCLA is 23-10 at home against Stanford and had won 10 straight overall in the series before its current two-game losing streak.
