LOS ANGELES - A pair of first-half goals propelled the top-ranked Stanford women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over No. 13 UCLA at Drake Stadium on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Cardinal remain unbeaten on the season at 11-0-2 (2-0 Pac-10). UCLA falls to 8-4-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

The Cardinal took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute when a hand ball in the UCLA box resulted in a penalty kick. Stanford senior Christen Press converted the penalty, hitting a low-liner past the outstretched hands of Bruin goalkeeper Chante' Sandiford, who had guessed correctly on the direction of the kick.

Stanford's second goal came off of a loose ball in the UCLA box following a corner kick. An attempted Bruin clearance was blocked by Mariah Nogueira, who then stepped up and put the ball away from about six yards out.

After being out-shot 7-2 in the first half, UCLA enjoyed a much better second half of play, matching Stanford with five shots.

One downfall for the Bruins came in the 31st minute when defender Chelsea Braun, who was doing an excellent job of marking Press for most of the first half, went down with a knee injury and did not return. The extent of her injury is not known, as she will be evaluated by UCLA's medical staff on Monday.

The loss marks a split for UCLA on the weekend, as the Bruins posted a 1-0 victory over No. 16 Cal on Friday.

UCLA continues Pac-10 play on the road next week, facing Oregon on Friday and 7:00 p.m. and Oregon State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
