For the second consecutive week, freshman center Kevin Love (Lake Oswego, OR/Lake Oswego HS) of the UCLA men's basketball team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week (January 7-13).
Love averaged over a double-double in home wins last week with 19.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. He also shot 66.7 percent (12-for-18) from the field, 60.0 percent (3-for-5) from three-point range and 78.6 percent (11-for-14) from the free-throw line for the week. In the win over No. 4 Washington State, the Cougars' first loss of the year, Love scored a season-high 27 points and recorded his eighth double-double of the year with 14 rebounds. The 27 points were tied for the third-most points by a UCLA freshman in school history (Don MacLean - 41, J.R. Henderson - 28 and Jason Kapono - 27, twice). Love shot 9-for-12 from the field and 2-for-3 from three-point range against the Cougars while adding four assists and two blocks. Against the Huskies, he tallied 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists while shooting 50.0 percent from the field and long range while sinking all four of his free throws. Love has scored in double figures all 17 games this season.
This is Love's second UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of his career.
