Junior outside hitter Ali Daley (Grass Valley, CA/Nevada Union HS) of the UCLA women's volleyball team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Aug. 20-26.
Daley recorded a pair of double-doubles and led the Bruins in kills in both matches last week at the AVCA College Volleyball Showcase in Omaha, Neb. The All-Tournament selection posted team-bests of 11 kills and 13 digs in the season-opening win against 21st-ranked Utah, marking the ninth-straight year that UCLA has won its season opener. One night later against top-ranked Nebraska, she tied for the team lead with 19 kills and added 18 digs. Ten of her 19 kills came in UCLA's game two victory over the Huskers.
The 19 kills evened her previous UCLA career-best, set at Maryland on Sept. 16, 2006, and her 18 digs broke her previous Bruin high of 15 against Nebraska in last year's national semifinal. Daley, who is already a third of the way to last season's double-double total of six, leads the team with 4.29 kills per game and 4.43 digs per game.
This is Daley's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and second of her career.
