LOS ANGELES - Senior striker Iman Bearde's first-half goal was the difference on Sunday, as the No. 11 UCLA women's soccer team registered a 1-0 victory over No. 10 Santa Clara at Drake Stadium. The win caps a perfect weekend for the Bruins (7-2-1), who also notched a 2-0 win against San Diego on Friday evening. With the loss, Santa Clara falls to 7-2-2.

Bearde, who entered the match as a substitute in the 28th minute, scored on a breakaway at the 32:19 mark. Freshman Jenna Richmond played a ball into space, enabling Bearde to run onto it and create a one-on-one situation with Bronco goalkeeper Bianca Henninger. With Henninger charging off of her line, Bearde faked a shot before dribbling around her, eventually tapping the ball into an empty net. Senior Elise Britt was also credited with an assist on that goal.

The Bruins thought they added an insurance goal in the 69th minute when sophomore Zakiya Bywaters scored on a brilliant strike from just outside the top of the box, however the goal was called back due to a UCLA foul just prior to the shot.

Bruin goalkeeper Chante' Sandiford faced just four shots on the day, none of which were on goal. UCLA outshot Santa Clara, 14-4.

It marked the second match that UCLA has played without leading scorer Sydney Leroux, who is currently in training camp with the U.S. Women's National Team.

UCLA continues its three-match stretch against West Coast Conference teams next Friday, hosting Pepperdine at 5:00 p.m. The match is part of a doubleheader wtih the Bruin men's team, which takes on Washington at 7:30 p.m.
