Los Angeles, Calif. - The 11th-ranked UCLA Baseball team (15-3, 3-0) got six strong innings from Grant Watson and a 2-4 day from Pat Valaika to earn the series sweep over Washington with a 3-0 win on Sunday at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

Watson picked up his fourth win of the year to remain undefeated on the season, tossing six shutout innings for the Bruins. Jared Fisher took the loss for the Huskies after lasting just three innings and giving up two runs. Sophomore David Berg stayed perfect in save opportunities, earning his fifth save of the year with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief.

In the bottom of the second, UCLA took the early lead when freshman Trent Chatterton hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Chris Keck to give the Bruins a 1-0 advantage. Valaika made it 2-0 in the bottom of the third, when he smashed a solo shot to left off of Fisher for his second home run of the year.

That would be all the run support that Watson needed, as he scattered four hits over his six innings of work, walking just one and striking out three. Juniors Ryan Deeter and Zack Weiss pitched a combined 1.2 innings of scoreless relief to keep the Huskies off the board, giving way to Berg with two outs in the eighth.

After Berg got the final out of the eighth inning, the Bruins tacked on another run in the bottom half of the frame, when Keck doubled down the right field line, scoring Valaika and increasing UCLA's lead to 3-0. In the ninth, Berg ran into some trouble, giving up back-to-back singles to start the inning. However, he induced back-to-back ground outs and a fly out to end the threat and seal UCLA's 3-0 win.

Valaika led the Bruin offense, going 2-4 with two runs and a RBI in the ballgame. Shane Zeile and Keck also had multi-hit days, each going 2-4 with a double.

UCLA will wrap up their homestand next weekend with a three-game series against California (13-7, 3-0) from Friday, March 22 to Sunday, March 24 at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Game times are 6 p.m., 2 p.m., and 1 p.m. respectively.

Game Notes: Grant Watson lowered his season ERA to 1.10 on the year with his six scoreless innings...he also improved to 12-1 as a starter in his career...Kevin Kramer drew two walks today, extending his streak of reaching base safely to 18 games...UCLA extended their win streak to 17 straight games over the Huskies...UCLA's pitchers have not allowed a run in the last 32 innings and lowered their season ERA to 2.02...the two runs that UCLA allowed to Washington in the series were the fewest runs they have allowed in a three-game series since the Bruins allowed two runs to Oregon from May 6-8 of 2011...the Bruins earned back-to-back shutouts for the first time since they shut out UC Riverside and Georgia in back-to-back games in 2012.
