LOS ANGELES - The No. 4 UCLA women's tennis team came up just short in its Pac-12 encounter with No. 13 Cal on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 4-3 loss at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

Similar to its match with Stanford on Friday, UCLA was unable to win the doubles point against Cal, dropping matches at court Nos. 1 and 3. The Bruins' lone win came at the No. 2 spot, where Courtney Dolehide and Pamela Montez were 8-2 winners over Alice Duranteau and Klara Fabikova. The Bears, however, ended up clinching the point at the No. 3 spot, as Kelly Chui and Tayler Davis downed Bruin freshmen Catherine Harrison and Kyle McPhillips, 8-5. Harrison and McPhillips were actually down 0-5 in that match and were able to get back on serve at 5-6, however ended up losing the final two games.

Things looked good for the Bruins in singles, as UCLA would win five of six first sets. Sophomore Kaitlin Ray quickly tied the score at 1-1 back on court No. 6, as she dispatched of Duranteau, 6-4, 6-2. It was a great result for Ray, who just came back from injury and hadn't played in a dual match since UC Irvine on Feb. 1.

UCLA and Cal would split the next four matches to finish, with the Bruins winning at court Nos. 1 and 4, and the Bears taking wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots. UCLA's Robin Anderson picked up another top 10 victory on the season at court No. 1, downing sixth-ranked Anett Schutting, 7-5, 6-3. Harrison was also a winner for the Bruins, beating Davis, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 at court No. 4.

With the dual match tied at 3-3, Cal's Annie Goransson clinched the win for her team at the No. 5 spot, as she outlasted Dolehide, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 to give the Bears the 4-3 victory.

The Bruins, who also fell 4-3 to No. 14 Stanford on Friday, see their record fall to 13-4 overall and 4-2 in the Pac-12. With the victory, the Bears improve to 11-5 and 5-1 in conference action.

Saturday's contest was the last regular-season home match for UCLA this year. The Bruins now close out the season with four-straight road contests beginning with Arizona on April 5.
