Postgame Recap

Los Angeles, Calif. - No. 3 UCLA improved to 13-1 on the year with a 9-6 win over No. 6 UC Irvine on Friday night under the lights at Spieker Aquatics Center. Three different Bruins recorded two goals each as UCLA ended the game on a 3-0 run to close out the Anteaters.

The Bruins jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter, the first courtesy of a power play goal by Becca Dorst with 5:07 remaining. Senior attacker Gisselle Naranjo followed with her first of two goals on the evening just 44 seconds later. That would be the biggest lead of the game until the Bruins scored the game-sealing goal with 0:52 remaining in the contest.

The Anteaters responded later in the in the first with two goals of their own, and after another Bruin goal, the score was 3-2 in favor of the Bruins at the end of the first quarter.

UC Irvine continued to test UCLA in the second quarter, taking a 4-3 lead with 1:05 left in the first half. But the Bruins were able to tie the score at 4-4 on their final possession to go into halftime even.

The game remained tight for the rest of the night. The Anteaters scored 35 seconds into the third to take their second lead of the game. But the Bruins played with patience, and leveled the game at 5:13 with Naranjo's second goal of the match.

The Bruins never looked back from that point on. Freshman Rachel Fattal had two fourth quarter goals, and UCLA scored four of the game's last five goals to win with a final score of 9-6.

The Bruins have the week off before heading to Irvine for the UC Irvine Invitational on February 23-24.
