UCLA head coach Karl Dorrell
(Opening statement): "What happened in the game is what you don't really anticipate happening. With the injuries, it's been a difficult season so far. It's unfortunate that Ben [Olson] went down early in the game. It's the kind of game where Notre Dame played everything close to the vest and didn't make any mistakes. They put some pressure on our offense, and our offense made some mistakes. Our defense played lights out. Offensively, we made too many mistakes - six turnovers, off four interceptions and two fumbles. It's hard to overcome those circumstances in any game."

"Mac (McLeod Bethel-Thompson) did a nice job, given the circumstances with the type of game and his experience. They kept fighting through it. It wasn't a pretty game, but our kids tried and continued to fight. We had an opportunity late in the fourth quarter, and we came up empty. We just didn't have anything fall our way. We kept fighting, given the mistakes and the circumstances. I give credit to Notre Dame. When they don't have any turnovers and you have six, that's unfortunate."

(On outlook heading into a bye week): "We're still in a pretty good position in Conference. We have to evaluate where we are. We have issues at quarterback with Pat [Cowan]'s availability and how long Ben [Olson] is going to be out. Are we going to bring back Osaar Rasshan and the quarterback [Chris Forcier] we would like to redshirt? Those are some of the things we have to consider going forward. We have to get our health back and get ready to play a great Cal football team. We're in pretty good shape in conference. We have to get past this loss and find out how to be better in our conference."

(On Ben Olson's injury): "We don't have an official word yet. It's not a major injury. The structure of his knee is pretty good. The sprain, from a medical term, we don't know what it is yet. His major ligaments look all intact and in shape. We need to make an evaluation at some point over the weekend."

(On the decision to move Osaar Rasshan from quarterback to wide receiver):"I don't regret that at all. I made the right decision. Mac is a very good player. We haven't had a game where we have had two top quarterbacks be healthy at the same time. This time, we got snake-bit a little bit in a game where you wish it didn't happen. We have to correct the issues that we have, and we have to be positive about moving forward. This bye comes at about the right time. We have some guys nicked up, and we have to be ready to compete in our conference."

(On the quarterback situation): "We're going to have to discuss the quarterback position pretty soon. As soon as we get some more information on Ben's injury and Pat's likelihood of coming back, that's when we can make that type of decision."

Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis
"At halftime we knew we were going to play a conservative game. We were going to play a field position game. We were just going to play conservatively and make plays, and when you cause six or seven turnovers, we obviously made the plays. I really felt that since I've been here I don't know if we've had a better practice."

"There is some joy in that locker room. It's been a long time since they've been able to sing the fight song."

"I figured we were going to need 21 to win. We got 20."

(On quarterback Jimmy Clausen): "He was pretty fired up because this is his home turf. He managed the team and did what we asked him to do. He's a freshman and this is the first time as a starting qb that he's won. So he's as happy as anyone right now."
