Final Stats

HENDERSON, Nev. - UCLA softball improved to 7-4 on the season with a run-rule win over Wright State on Sunday afternoon at the Stephanie Lynn Craig complex in Henderson, Nev., on the final day of the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic. The Bruins defeated Wright State (0-6) by a score of 12-2 in five innings. Thirteen of the combined 14 runs in the game scored via home run, and the Bruins had a school-record seven home runs in the contest. Both Kaila Shull and Megan Langenfeld had multiple home runs in the game.

Although UCLA gave up a solo home run in the top of the first inning, the Bruins answered in the bottom half of the frame. Krista Colburn led off the inning with a solo home run, her first of the year, tying the game at 1-1. Kaila Shull followed with a solo shot of her own, her fourth homer of the year, which leads the team. Megan Langenfeld upped the Bruin lead to 3-1 with her first home run of the season, a solo shot to centerfield.

Three more runs went up for the Bruins in the second inning. The rally started with a one-out slap hit single from Tara Henry, followed by a double from Krista Colburn. Lisa Dodd then connected on her third home run of the season, a shot to center to make the score 6-1.

In the third, UCLA sent 12 batters to the plate and scored six runs in the inning. Langenfeld led off with her second home run of the game, a shot that was followed by a solo home run from Whitney Holum. With two outs, Shana Stewart reached on an infield single, followed by a double from Colburn and Shull's second home run of the game to make the score 11-1. After a Legaspi double, Langenfeld was walked to load the bases and Whitney Holum hit an RBI single, playing pinch-runner Kelsey Enquist, the only run of the game to score on something other than a home run.

Lisa Dodd earned the victory for the Bruins. Dodd struck out three, walked one and allowed just one hit after relieving Anjelica Selden in the top of the third inning.

UCLA returns to action next Friday at the Palm Springs Classic in Cathedral City, Calif. The Bruins will play five games over three days at the tournament with games against Michigan State, No. 1 Tennessee, Maryland, Northwestern and the PFX All-Stars.
