UCLA Holds Spring Game At Rose Bowl

UCLA held its annual Spring Game at the Rose Bowl on Saturday night and defense took center stage, holding the offense to three touchdowns on the evening in front of a crowd of 12,494. Among the fans in attendance were soccer superstar David Beckham, New England Patriot stars Tom Brady and Wes Welker, NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice and numerous Bruin alums, including James Washington, Jarrad Page and the newest Tennessee Titan, Alterraun Verner, who spoke to the crowd.

Derrick Coleman (four yards) and Johnathan Franklin (one yard) each scored a rushing touchdown at the end of a drive directed by Kevin Prince and Andrew Yelich scored on a 15-yard pass play from Ted Landers. The defense also scored a touchdown on an 84-yard interception return by Marlon Pollard.

Kai Forbath, the defending Lou Groza Award winner, was four for four on field goal attempts, making kicks of 44, 34, 51 and 57 yards at the end of drives.

Prince, who directed drives that resulted in two touchdowns and one field goal, completed five of 13 passes for 72 yards and one interception. Richard Brehaut, who directed two field goal drives, completed three of nine passes for 34 yards while Nick Crissman hit on three of five passes for 24 yards. Ted Landers, completed all four of his passes for 24 yards, including the 15-yard score to Andrew Yelich. Clayton Tunney had his only pass intercepted.

Coleman led the ground game with 64 net yards and one touchdown on six attempts. Franklin netted 47 yards and one TD on 18 attempts. Ricky Marvray led the receivers with three catches for 25 yards while Nelson Rosario added two for 17 yards. Cory Harkey had a great catch down the middle for 28 yards, UCLA longest play from scrimmage.

Defensively, Todd Golper and Stan McKay each made six tackles while Tony Dye and Ryan Medina made five each. Pollard (84-yard touchdown) and Courtney Viney each made an interception. Datone Jones led the way with two sacks and six other Bruins made one each.
