Sept. 1, 2008

Box Score

Portland, ore. - Seven different players got in on the scoring action for the third-ranked UCLA women's soccer team on Monday, as the Bruins posted a 7-0 victory over Portland State at PCC-Rock Creek. UCLA's seven goals on the day are the most scored by a Bruin team since a 9-0 victory over Mississippi Valley State in the first round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament.

UCLA (3-0) got on the board in just the 14th minute of play, as player of the year candidate Lauren Cheney notched her second goal in as many games at the 13:21 mark. Cheney also had the game-winning goal in the Bruins' 1-0 victory over No. 6 Portland on Saturday.

Canadian Kara Lang, who like Cheney was playing in just her second match after returning from the Olympic Games, put the Bruins ahead 2-0 less than six minutes later with her first goal of the season. The assist was credited to sophomore Lauren Barnes.

UCLA would score two more goals before the half, as McCall Zerboni and Kristina Larsen scored less than a minute apart in the 37th and 38th minutes, respectively. It marked Larsen's second goal of the season after scoring in the Bruins' 2-1 season-opening win over UC Santa Barbara.

Lauren Wilmoth, Caitlyn Mac Kechnie and Liz Zadro would all score second-half goals to complete the 7-0 win. Zadro's goal in the 84th minute was the first of her career.

Bruin senior Ashley Thompson played the entire 90 minutes in goal, making three saves. UCLA outshot Portland State, 29-6 on the afternoon. Both Lang and freshman Sydney Leroux had two assists on the day.

Next up for UCLA is a meeting with UC Irvine on Sunday at Drake Stadium beginning at 1:00 p.m.
