IRVINE, Calif. - No. 3 UCLA survived a scare from No. 6 UC Irvine, and sophomore Emily Donohoe came to the rescue with some last-second heroics, as the Bruins improved to 15-1 on the year with a 7-6 victory over the Anteaters on Saturday evening. The Bruins advanced to tomorrow's semifinals of the UC Irvine Invitational and will face No. 2 USC at 11:45 a.m.

UC Irvine got on the board first when Taylor Morrison capitalized on a power play at the 7:25 mark. Freshman Alexa Tielmann tied the score and ended the first period scoring at 1-1 with a goal with 44 seconds left.

Hillary Estrada gave the Anteaters a 2-1 lead with another power play goal with 6:07 to go in the second period. But the Bruins tied it at 2-2 with an exclusion goal of their own by junior Kelly Ronimus with 4:11 to go. The Bruins took a 3-2 lead into the break on a 6-on-5 opportunity and score from sophomore Danielle Ferraro.

McKenna Mitchell scored on a skip shot at the 7:11 mark of the third period to tie it at 3-3. But freshman Rachel Fattal scored a skipper of her own to put the Bruins back up, 4-3, on a power play with 6:33 left in the third. Tielmann scored her second of the game to put UCLA up 5-3 with 4:01 to go. Hannah Croghan ended the third-period scoring with a power play strike on a lob shot with 1:30 left to trim the Bruins' lead to 5-4 heading into the fourth.

The Bruins built a 6-4 lead after Fattal scored her second of the game, a skip shot from 10 meters, at the 5:35 mark. After four minutes of solid defense by both teams, UCI's Croghan scored back-to-back goals to complete her hat trick and tie the score at 6-6. She scored with 1:58 remaining and then again with 22 seconds left, setting up the dramatic finish. UCLA Head Coach Brandon Brooks called timeout with 12 seconds left. The Bruins reset and freshman Kodi Hill fed Donohoe up top, who drew a foul, and then scored on a five-meter foul shot with four seconds left to win the game.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Sami Hill played the entire game in goal for the Bruins, picking up six saves. Sophomore Jillian Yocum was credited with nine stops in the cage for UCI.
