Storrs, Conn. - The UCLA women's soccer team's season opener on Friday night at UConn was canceled due to lightning. The match was called in the 58th minute with the Huskies leading the Bruins 3-2.
With UCLA trailing 2-0, the Bruins stormed back following a pair of goals by senior Zakiya Bywaters. UConn would actually take a 3-2 lead on a goal by Danielle Schulmann in the 49th minute.
Less than 10 minutes later the match was canceled due to lightning and both teams went indoors. After a short delay, it was then determined that play would not resume and the game would be canceled. No result goes into the record book for either team.
UCLA returns to action on Sunday, taking on UMass at 10:00 a.m. (PST).
