SERIES: UCLA leads 130-89

Mustafa Abdul-Hamid is out for the remainder of the season after having surgery on Dec. 23 to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist. Alfred Aboya received three stitches in his forehead immediately after the loss at Washington (Jan. 24) after contact in the game.

This is the 220th meeting between UCLA and Stanford with the Bruins leading the series 130-89. While UCLA has won six of the last seven meetings, Stanford is 10-9 against UCLA since 2000. UCLA leads the all-time matchups in Pauley Pavilion 33-10 (.767), winning the last three games. Last year, UCLA swept all three meetings, marking the first time either team has won three games against the other since UCLA matched the feat in 1964. A year ago, UCLA clinched its third-straight Pac-10 regular season championship at home with the 77-67 win over Stanford (March 6, 2008). Darren Collison led all scorers with 24 points while Russell Westbrook added 19 points. Luc Richard Mbah a Moute (10 pts., 11 rebs.) and Kevin Love (17 pts., 10 rebs.) both had double-doubles. Brook Lopez led Stanford with a double-double of his own (18 pts., 13 rebs.). Robin Lopez contributed 14 points while Taj Finger chipped in 10 points. The Bruins trailed 30-18 at the break and outscored the Cardinal 14-4 in the overtime period. UCLA Head Coach Ben Howland is 6-5 against Stanford.

UCLA dropped five spots to No. 16 this week in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and dropped four spots to No. 17 in the Associated Press poll, released on Jan. 26, 2009. UCLA has been ranked in the top 25 in the AP poll for 68 straight weeks (since the 2005-06 preseason) and in the Coaches Poll for 70 straight weeks (since 2004-05 final poll), which is the longest streak in the nation.

Ben Howland earned his 300th victory of his career with the 72-54 win over DePaul in the 15th Annual John R. Wooden Classic (Dec. 13, 2008). He is currently 310-148 (.677), which ranks 25th on the winningest active coaches list by percentage and 68th on the active list by victories. Howland's first career victory was his first game at Northern Arizona in 1994, a 71-69 victory over New Mexico Highlands. His 100th career victory came in his second season at Pittsburgh with the 77-65 win at home over Seton Hall (Jan. 13, 2001). His 200th win came in his third season at UCLA with the 56-37 home win over Delaware State (Nov. 19, 2005).
