#15 UCLA Improves to 5-0 With Wins Over UC Davis & WSU

LOS ANGELES - The 15th-ranked Bruins improved to 5-0 on the season with victories over UC Davis and Washington State on Friday at the Spieker Aquatics Center. UCLA claimed a 136-119 win over the Aggies and a 150-97 triumph against the Cougars.

The Bruins posted a 1-2 finish in the first event of the meet, the 200 Medley Relay. The quartet of senior Stephanie Christofferson, junior Kathryn Murphy, sophomore Jessica Khojasteh and freshman Katie Kinnear had a time of 1:42.85. Senior Andrea Reigel, juniors Cynthia Fascella and Emily Weir and sophomore Noelle Tarazona finished second with a mark of 1:44.96.

Freshman Katy Campbell claimed the 1000 Freestyle in a time of 10:10.35, while junior Ting Quah followed that with a win in the 200 Free with a mark of 1:49.07. Washington State came back with a win in the 100 Backstroke and UC Davis took the following race, the 100 Breaststroke.

The Bruins responded with a 1-2 finish in the 200 Butterfly, as Kinnear went 2:00.69 and senior Karoline Sanderud placed second at 2:03.57. In the last event before the first break, Fascella (23.91) and Murphy (23.92) earned UCLA first- and second-place points in the 50 Freestyle, but the best time went to an exhibitioned Quah at 23.55.

Following the break, Khojasteh won the 100 Freestyle in a time of 51.81, which was followed by a victory by senior Laurence Delisle in the 200 Backstroke (2:00.33). Reigel had the second-best time in the event at 2:02.69.

UC Davis won the next two events, the 200 Breaststroke and the 500 Freestyle, before UCLA came back with a win by Kinnear in the 100 Butterfly in a time of 54.74. Quah had the second-best mark at 55.16, as the three teams took their final break.

Tarazona claimed the 400 Individual Medley in a time of 4:23.14, with the two next best times also coming from UCLA with Sanderud (4:25.22) and junior Lauren Baker (4:25.84). The meet concluded with a Washington State triumph in the 400 Freestyle Relay.

The UCLA swimming team returns to the pool on Friday, Nov. 9, hosting Arizona State, CSU Bakersfield and San Diego in a quad meet at 1 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics Center.
